Purpose

The single-brick in-situ single-shear tester is a specialized instrument designed to assess the shear strength of masonry structures. This device is a compact hydraulic system that applies force to the masonry block by lifting a piston, which in turn pushes against the cap plate. The test induces shear deformation between the upper and lower surfaces of the block, allowing the shear strength of the masonry to be calculated based on the force measured at the moment of failure. The test results are highly intuitive, though the localized area being tested does experience some minor damage.
