Product Description

Purpose

The flame photometer is an analytical instrument based on the principle of emission spectroscopy. It utilizes the thermal energy provided by the flame to excite some atoms in alkaline earth metals, causing these atoms to absorb energy and transition to a higher energy level. When they return to their normal energy level, they release energy, which has spectral characteristics, specifically within a certain wavelength range. For example, when table salt is placed in the fire, the flame appears yellow because the spectrum of the energy released by sodium atoms when they return to their normal energy level is yellow. This is commonly referred to as the flame color reaction. Different alkali metals or alkaline earth metals produce different colors in the flame, and by using different filters, qualitative tests can be conducted. The intensity of the flame color is proportional to the concentration of the atoms in the solution, forming the basis for quantitative testing. This method is usually referred to as the flame photometry method, and such instruments are typically called flame photometers.
